When the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced the double track system, it certainly did not go down well with a lot of people. Policy think tanks like IMANI and ISODEC, educationists and teacher associations including the National Association of Graduate Teachers raised issues with it. The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) among others called for the policy to be suspended citing lack of stakeholders engagement. As the Double-Track System starts to roll out Monday September 10, Radio Ghana’s Yvonne Atilego looks at the challenges and the way forward in the matter, for the general interest of Ghanaian students.
Double Track Education System
Unlike the single-track system, the new system is expected to divide the entire student body and staff into two different tracks.This means that while one track is in school, the other is on vacation. To begin the process, the Ghana Education Service (GES) on Tuesday, September 5, released the placements of 423,134 students who have successfully made it under the 2018 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). This number is out of a total of 521,710 registered candidates, meaning that 67,382 are yet to be placed under the system.
