All eyes are focused on one of the World’s economic giants, the USA, as it goes to the polls to either endorse a second term for incumbent Donald Trump or his main contender, Joe Biden. Mr. Trump is seeking to continue what he describes as putting the economy back on track, by creating more jobs. Mr. Biden on the other hand is optimistic about kicking out Mr. Trump describing him as someone who is out of touch with voters, riding on criticisms that characterised Mr. Trump’s handling of the Coronavirus pandemic in the US, which has led to many loss of lives.  In this piece, GBC’s Rebecca Ekpe dissects America’s election and explains why Electoral votes, instead of Popular votes determine who wins the Presidential slot.
