Accra: Court remands “popo eating” accused to psychiatric hospital for mental evaluation

The Circuit Court 11, in Accra, has remanded Adinda-Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, a suspected robber, to psychiatric hospital, over a disturbing report that he eats his excreta. Moudijibou, one of two suspects, who was arrested and extradited to Ghana on May 16 by Interpol Togo, after collaborations between the Togo and Ghana Interpol, for alleged robberies in high-end areas in Accra, was arraigned together with the first accused Marzuk Alidu, on Tuesday morning on charges including abetment of robbery and robbery contrary sections of the Criminal and other Offence Act 1960, Act 29.

Prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP Richard Amoah, told the court, that accuse, Adinda- Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, began showing unusual behavior, including allegedly eating his own excreta, after his caution statement was taken.

Mr. Amoah, raised concerns over the mental stability of the accused person, stating that, prosecution could not tell if his behavior was part of his modus operandi or whether he was actually mentally unstable. The prosecutor, then prayed the court for an order for the accused person to be remanded to a mental facility, to ascertain his true mental condition.

The complainant, In the case, is a medical doctor at the Accra Regional hospital and a resident of East Legon. The fire accuse Marzuk Alidu is an Okada Rider living at Nima Alaska.

While the accused person Adinda- Akpo Abdou Moudjibou @ Maxwell @ Rashid Bawa is a Businessman, and Togolese national resident in Ghana.

The fact narrates that On April 13 2024, at about 3:00am , the second accused person, suddenly entered the complainant’s bedroom through her washroom window wearing a face mask, pointing a gun at her and ordering her to surrender her valuables.

He allegedly ransacked the complainant’s room and robbed her of items including cash the sum of $200,000 USD, Gold waist chain valued at GHC 20,000.00.

Gold Necklace valued at GHC 18,000.00, assorted jewelry including gold earrings, brooches and others, valued at GHC 5,000.00 and a registered CZ 75.5P pistol belonging to the complainant’s husband.

The accuse, Adinda- Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, allegedly packed all the booty into a backpack, waned the complainant to lock herself in the room and then bolted. The complainant later reported the matter to the Police for investigation.

A team of investigators proceeded to the crime scene, confirmed the robbery and the scene was processed forensically for investigation.

Investigation revealed that the second accused person, was conveyed to the scene on a motorbike by the first accuse. The fact continues that on September 4, 2024, the first accuse, Marzuk Alidu was arrested at East Airport, after another alleged robbery operation with his co-defendant. During interrogation, he admitted conveying the second accused person to the crime scene and went back for him after the robbery, the first accuse is said to have further furnished Police with the contact details of the second accused person to assist in investigation.

Per the facts Malik Alidu, led the Police to Madina Libya Quarters believe to be the hideout of the Adinda- Akpo Abdou Moudjibou where he is said to have escaped. Per the facts on September 7 2024, the first accuse, led Police to the scene of the crime for reconstruction and pointed where he dropped off his co-dependent for the robbery.

He further led the Police to other similar robbery scenes where he aided the second accuse to commit similar crimes, allegedly.

According to prosecution, an arrest warrant was obtained for Adinda-Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, and Interpol was alerted about his escape. On January 30, 2025, Interpol Togo informed its counterpart in Ghana, of the arrest of the accused person in Lome the capital of Togo.

He was extradited to Ghana last Friday May 16 2025, for further investigation and prosecution.

The court presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah heard that on the same day an identification parade with the second accused and eight others was organized at the CID Headquarters, however the first accuse Malik Alidu, failed to identify the second accused person as his accomplice, meanwhile in his cautioned statement to Police Adinda-Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, admitted allegedly engaging in series of robberies with the assistance of a motor rider and one Mohammed Djando who is still at large.

Investigation is ongoing.
