Prosecution in the 2019 murder case of Investigative Journalist Ahmed Suale Hussein, has informed the the District Court, in Madina, that it is still waiting for advice on the case docket from the Office of the Attorney-General, in order to know the direction to take on the case.
According to the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Nana Afuabamfoa Bamfo, the case docket, was recently transferred to the Office of the AG, for advice.
Daniel Owusu Koranteng, colleague and friend of the late journalist, is facing two counts of abetment to commit crime and murder, over the death of the slain journalist.
According to the Prosecutor Chief Inspector Nana Afuabamfoa Bamfo, the case docket on the murder of Ahmed Suale Huessin, is currently at the Office of the Attorney-General, for a review of the evidence and legal basis of the case, to determine if there is sufficient evidence to warrant a prosecution of the case or not.
The prosecutor, made this development known to the Magistrate at the District Court in Madina on Tuesday morning June 17, at the committal hearing. Meanwhile, the accused person Daniel Owusu Koranteng, aka Amakye, who was released on bail last May, was in court for hearing.
Per the narrative, the accused had close relationship with the deceased and his family before his death. Sometime in June 2018, tensions allegedly escalated when former MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong broadcasted images of the late Ahmed Suale on his television station and further called for attacks against him.
Chief Inspector Bamfo said the deceased later identified the accused as the person who provided Mr Ken Agyapong with his photographs and allegedly confronted him through WhatsApp. The facts state that on January 16, 2019, following the publication of Ahmed Suale’s images, he was shot and killed in Madina.
The Prosecutor said investigations disclosed that the accused person, known to have previously worked together with the late Ahmed Suale at Tiger Eye P.I led by Investigative Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and was allegedly privy to the deceased’s residence and possible hideouts, allegedly led two other culprits currently at large to the house where they shot and killed Ahmed Suale.
Chief Inspector Bamfo said call records allegedly placed the accused in Madina near the deceased’s residence before and during the murder.
At the last sitting, the Magistrate, Susana Nyarkotey directed the Prosecution to get the advice from the Attorney-General’s Office and file the Bill of Indictment for the committal proceedings to proceed. The court has adjourned until August 5.
