The AMA is developing a Climate Action Plan (CAP) to map out urban climate action.

CAP will align with the goals of the Paris Agreement, which aims at keeping global warming within one-point five degrees Celsius.

The Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah announced this at the 7th International Climate Change and Population Conference on Africa in Accra.

The three day conference is being organised by the Regional Institute for Population Studies, RIPS of the University of Ghana with assistance from the International Development Research Centre of Canada and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

The Director of RIPS, Prof. Joseph Yaro noted that Ghana would not be lamenting the adverse effects of climate change in all sectors of the economy, if adequate steps were taken to build resilience to contain the impact.

The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Dapaa said the impact of Climate Change could reverse development due to its effect on agriculture, energy, health, transportation and water among others.
