The Ashanti Regional Lands Commission Board has been officially inaugurated to improve land governance and service delivery in the region.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, was attended by key government officials, including the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Yusif Sulemana.
In his address, Sulemana urged the new Board to focus on improving revenue collection, delivering better land services, and helping fight illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.
He warned that illegal mining continues to destroy water bodies and farmlands, and called for urgent and decisive action.

He also stressed the importance of teamwork between the Lands Commission and local government authorities to ensure proper land management and development.
“The government will support your work fully because good land administration is essential for national development,” Hon. Sulemana said. He added that the Commission must promote responsible land use and protect the environment.
The Deputy Minister revealed plans to extend land title registration beyond Greater Kumasi. This move, he said, will improve land security and attract more investment. He also praised the Commission’s work in creating a base map of public lands along key routes like Kumasi-Mampong, Kumasi-Sunyani, and Kumasi-Offinso roads.
Yusif Sulemana encouraged traditional landowners to release land for government and private projects to help speed up development in the region.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, said the inauguration of the Board marks a big step towards better land management, peace, and economic growth.
He highlighted the Commission’s role in advising both government and traditional leaders on land policies.

“The road ahead may be tough, but the chance to improve land administration is a great one. We believe in your skills and honesty,” Dr. Amoakohene told the Board.
