During the festive season, celebrated every December 25, the radiant Christmas lights transform the city of Accra in the Greater Region of Ghana, turning it into a bright and joyous land.

This brings happiness to residents and passers-by, making the city sparkle with excitement.

Venturing into neighbourhoods, we explored the wonderful colours brightening the streets and heard from residents about the cheer the Christmas lights bring to their lives.

Angelina Amede, a longstanding resident of the Lapaz community, expressed her excitement about the exceptional ambiance created by the Christmas lights.

“The lights serve as a reminder of the true essence of Christmas. Witnessing such illuminations fills my heart with happiness and adds an exciting atmosphere to our lives. While I might wish for every day to be Christmas, I am grateful for this wonderful time to share with my family and friends.”

In notable places like the Airport residential area, Sankara at Osu, and West Hills Mall, you can see Christmas lights being decorated at the roadside with shining lights.

During the night, the place brightens with a magical ambiance, which makes the place very nice. With this, we ask some residents to tell us what they feel about the Christmas lights used to decorate the street.

As drivers pass with their cars around those areas and passengers are excitedly looking at the shining lights, Samuel Agyekum, who was passing by, expressed that this looks so beautiful and makes our street feel alive, and it makes me so happy when I see them. Since it’s Christmas and it’s for showing love to family and friends, it brings me joy.”

Even shops contribute to the festive ambiance by adorning their spaces with lights. Shop owner Charles, residing in Lapaz, expressed, “It’s not just about attracting customers; it’s about creating a delightful atmosphere. The lights benefit both our business and the community, making everything feel lovely, although profits are important.”

David Ebli emphasised that the Christmas lights signify the commencement of the holiday season, evoking excitement among the community.

With significant events planned for this Christmas, we anticipate witnessing the vibrant display of Christmas lights, which will enhance the atmosphere of festivities. Churches and events across the city of Accra will illuminate the season with magnificent Christmas lights, creating a display that adds to the joyous spirit of the holidays.
