Management of the University of Ghana (UG) has suspended all social gatherings on campus following a resurgence of an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, known as Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases within the university community.

The move follows an earlier announcement on Monday, June 23, 2025, confirming new suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases on campus.

In response, the University’s Health Directorate called for strict adherence to preventive measures, warning of the potential for further spread.

The Directorate, in a statement, cautioned that all staff, students, and visitors are strongly advised to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to the recommended preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection and community spread.

As part of heightened safety measures, the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs has also issued a directive, today, Thursday, June 26, 2025, instructing all student bodies including GRASAG, SRC, JCRs, and various departmental and school associations to suspend all ongoing and upcoming events and week celebrations until further notice.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, who signed the directive, described the suspension as a necessary step to protect the health and well-being of students, staff, and the broader campus community.

Management of the University is therefor urging all students, staff and organisations to fully comply with the directive and support efforts to prevent further infections.
