The Ghana Energy Commission has organized a Stakeholders Engagement in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, with a call on facility owners to patronize certified electrical wiring practitioners in the wiring of their facilities to help mitigate electrical-related fire outbreaks.

The Stakeholders Engagement organized by the Ghana Energy Commission brought together security agencies such as the Ghana National Fire Service officers, Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, Certified Electricians, Facility Owners, and Certified Electrical Meter Installers, among others.

The engagement is also to promote energy conservation as well as energy efficiency to help reduce costs among consumers. The stakeholders were provided the opportunity to ask questions about things bothering them about energy efficiency and energy conversation, as well as electrical cables that meet energy commission standards.

In an interview with GBC News during the engagement, a Senior Officer in charge of Public Affairs at the Ghana Energy Commission, Samuel Frimpong, reiterated that it is the responsibility of the Ghana Energy Commission to educate the public on the need to conserve energy in the country.

He urged facility owners to always engage certified electricians in the wiring of their facilities as well as engage certified electricians to inspect the wiring of their facilities after 10 years of wiring to help mitigate electricity-related fire outbreaks.

Mr. Frimpong emphasized that as a way of conserving energy in the country, there is the need for consumers to patronize electrical cables and appliances that have been certified by the Ghana Energy Commission and meet the standards of the commission and the Ghana Standards Authority.
