The Eastern Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, Yaw Atuahene has expressed worry about the level of destruction being caused in Ghana’s forests.

He noted that, activities of illegal miners and lumbering are seriously degrading the forests at a fast rate, a situation which requires immediate attention from all stakeholders.

Speaking on GBC’s Sunrise FM’s Morning Show, “Ade Akyi Abia”, in Koforidua, he lamented that the illegal activities are being extended to the country’s forest reserves which are supposed to be protected and called on all Ghanaians to be vigilant and report perpetrators to authorities for prompt action.

Mr. Atuahene further called for a complete halt to bush burning, illegal lumbering and mining which are destroying the forests, farms, land, water bodies and the environment as a whole.

He said the forests serve as a source of game and food among other benefits and called for their protection to enhance human lives, animals and the ecology.
