The Governing Board of the Ho Teaching Hospital has embarked on a working visit to the facility as part of efforts to boost oversight, enhance healthcare delivery, and position the hospital as a leader in medical tourism.
Led by Board Chair, Dr. Delanyo Yao Tsidi Dovlo, the visit featured interactions with staff and management, a tour of critical infrastructure, and a staff durbar aimed at fostering transparency and collaboration.

Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Dovlo emphasized the need for continuous quality improvements and clearer lines of responsibility.
“There are a number of areas that we all need to work on together,” said Dr. Dovlo. “One of course is the area of the quality of care. A lot of innovations have taken place, but these need to be translated in a way that our patients are satisfied with.”
He pointed to immediate investment needs in facilities such as bed capacity, oxygen supply, and backup power, stressing that prioritization would be essential amid limited resources. “We are going to identify these things more closely, prioritize them, and see how best we can tackle them,” he added. “We must invest in what moves things forward quickly,” he added.
The Board members were also briefed by a Technical Advisor to the Health Minister on the importance of enhancing the hospital’s role in medical tourism—a vision shared and echoed by the hospital’s new Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Hintermann K.K. Mbroh.
“The vision of the hospital is to become a premium facility in innovative healthcare,” said Dr. Mbroh. “We started the medical tourism agenda even before the governing party added it to their manifesto,” Dr. Mbroh said.
He noted that the Ho Teaching Hospital was explicitly mentioned in the national medical tourism policy, adding that internal strategies now need to be aligned with the national framework. “Hopefully we will begin to set the internal environment and controls that allow us to implement our strategy,” Dr. Mbroh stated.
The durbar provided staff a platform to share concerns and suggestions, reinforcing the board’s commitment to participatory governance. Officials highlighted the board’s emphasis on transparency, accountability, and long-term strategic planning.

The new board members of the Ho Teaching Hospital are Dr. Delanyo Yao Tsidi Dovlo (Chair), Dr. Fred Bedzrah, Mr. Emil Atsu Agbakpe, Mr. Prince Rockson, Dr. (Pharm) Divine Azameti, and Mr. Courage Arnold Foli Kwame-Kumah. The rest include Prof. Lydia Aziato, Prof. Yaw Asante Awuku, Hon. Richmond Edem Kofi Kportosu (MP), Torgbui Kotoku XI and Dr. Hintermann K.K. Mbroh (CEO).
The board’s visit is expected to result in actionable insights for facility upgrades and policy refinement in line with both national health goals and patient satisfaction benchmarks.
