The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has encouraged opinion leaders, chiefs, and residents of Zabo Zongo, a Muslim community in Accra to support the government’s efforts to curb the use of illicit drugs in the area.
At an engagement with residents of the community the Minister also advised them against taking matters into their own hands by destroying property belonging to individuals found using drugs.

Substance abuse among the youth has been a growing concern in many communities especially the Zongos. It is to address the menace that the Minister for the Interior, and some security officials, local leaders, and community members, met to discuss ways to support and encourage volunteers who are committed to fighting illicit drug use in the Zabo Zongo community.
The President of Zabo Zongo, Hajia Fati, appealed to the minister to introduce vocational programs in Zongo communities to equip young people with employable skills.

This she says will make them more productive and keep them away from drugs. The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, lauded some volunteers in the community for their initiative to deal with persons who use illicit drugs.
The Minister presented a sum of twenty thousand cedis to support the volunteer groups.
