The Government of Ghana has awarded the contract for the second phase of the sea defence project in Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region.
The project will cover coastal communities including Blekusu, Salakope, and other communities where tidal waves have continued to destroy land, property, and livelihoods.
As part of efforts to address the situation, the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, visited Salakope to engage with chiefs and residents of the affected areas. His visit signaled the government’s readiness to tackle the ongoing tidal wave menace.
Messrs Amandi Holding Limited have been tasked with the construction of the sea defence project in Ketu South and are set to begin work.
President Mahama is scheduled to visit the area later this month to officially break ground for the second phase of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project.
The first phase of the project was initiated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government prior to 2016. However, the second phase—which is crucial for providing much-needed relief to the affected communities—was left incomplete after 2017.
