The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), has raised alarm over dozens of death traps at abandoned mining pits at Anum-Apapam and Oboho communities in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.
This follows an inspection by the organization after series of complaints by residents, predominantly peasant farmers.
Residents claim some children have died in the pits in previous years.
The Ayensuano NADMO Director, Joseph Okai Djan, confirming this to GBC’s Radio Ghana, called on the inter-ministerial committee on galamsey to help the organization to reclaim such lands which are covered with weed and pose a danger to residents.
