The National House of Chiefs has taken a strong and unyielding stance against the practice of same-sex intimate relationships in Ghana following recent intensified public and media discourse on the matter.

A statement signed and issued to the media in Kumasi by President of the House, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, who is also the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anwiaso in the Western North Region, warned that Chiefs, Traditional Leaders and Custodians of the Land, will never support, accept or condone any form of same sex-relationship such as gayism and lesbianism.

The statement further warned that, even though traditional leaders would continue to respect human rights or opinions of individuals, they will never entertain LGBTQI in their respective communities.

Similarly, Nananom will resist strongly any attempt to impose any culture that seems to undermine the tradition of Ghanaians.

The statement, therefore, expressed appreciation to the media, both local and foreign, for highlighting the issue and urged government never to succumb to any external pressures in the name of bilateral relations.

The National House of Chiefs, however, entreated Ghanaians not to take the law into their hands by burning, lynching, molesting or subjecting suspected members of LGBTQI to any unlawful treatment.
