Interpol has officially issued a Red Notice for Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s former Finance Minister, after he failed to appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for questioning on June 2, 2025.
This development follows the earlier decision by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyabeng to declare Ofori-Atta wanted. The OSP has now begun extradition procedures to bring him back to Ghana as part of ongoing investigations into several major corruption-related cases levelled against him during his time in public office.
On its website, Interpol lists the charge against Ofori-Atta as “using public office for profit.” This indicates he is suspected of abusing his government position for personal gain.
According to the Special Prosecutor, the former minister is being investigated in connection with the following high-profile cases:
Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance – A contract between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
Electricity Company Contract Termination – The cancellation of a deal between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Chinese firm BXC.
National Cathedral Project – Questions surrounding the procurement and financial management of the National Cathedral construction.
Ambulance Procurement – A contract involving the Ministry of Health and Service Ghana Auto Group for the supply of 307 ambulances.
GRA Tax P-Fund Management – Concerns about how funds were handled in the GRA’s Tax P-Fund Account.
The Special Prosecutor says all efforts to get Ofori-Atta to cooperate have failed, prompting the call for international assistance through Interpol.
