The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Madam Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has vowed to eject scrap dealers who have returned to old Agbogbloshie, popularly known as Sodom and Gomorrah

According to her, plans are underway to eject all the returner scrap dealers at old Agbogbloshie who were evacuated from the place and resettled in July 2021 by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC).

However, four years later, the scrap dealers who were part of the groups ejected returned and began converting sections into unauthorized dumping grounds.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the Greater Accra Regional Minister explained that authorities will soon move in to restore the enclave following the resurgence of scrap business.

“After the election, they came back here. There was a committee that was set up for us to evacuate them back to where they were asked to go.

We picked an intel that they collect money from tricycle operators to allow them to dump their refuse here. So, we are here to evaluate the situation and also see how best we can re-evacuate them back to where they were asked to go,” she said.

The operation, which took place in July 2021, cleared structures that had housed roughly 10,000 scrap dealers and onion traders, aiming to reclaim the land and restore order to the area.
