SHS girls train in entreprenuership and digital literacy in Koforidua

About 50 female students from some selected Senior High Schools in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital has been schooled on digital literacy, business ideation and planning, website creation, mentorship and pitching.

The two-day Girls start-up training organized by Seeds of fortune, Ghana, a non-profit organization in partnership with the Black Star Pearls of Ghana featured Oti Boateng SHS, Ghana Senior High School, New Juaben Senior High School, and Oyoko Methodist Senior High School.

The Country Lead for Seeds of Fortune, Juliet Nyarko Adansi stressed the need to prepare girls for the digital economy. She observed that technology had become an integral part of daily life, revolutionizing work, communication, and living standards. She echoed the importance of opening opportunities for girls to explore their potential.

Ms. Adansi further explained that the seed for fortune organization provides ambitious young women with resources in career development, financial literacy and leadership.

The leader of the Black Stars Pearls of Ghana, Prof. Delia Gillss said the Pitch and Pull-up competition gave the students the platform to present business ideas before panel of judges, received mentorship and compete for prizes. She urged the girls to develop innovative solution that will support national growth.

At the end of the pitch and pull-up challenge, Ernestina Lagbe a form two student of Oti Boateng SHS emerged the overall winner with her reusable woven shopping bag invention aimed at reducing waste.

Ms. Onlin Akorfa from the same school placed second with an innovation in fish feed production to support aquaculture while Ms. Sandra Bortsie, a form two student of New Juaben Senior High came third with her drawstring backpack designed to help students carry bowls and cutlery to the dining hall.
