A powerful voice of discontent from the “Concerned Youth Against Injustices” in the Talensi District in the Upper East Region (UER) has accused leadership of the Regional Police Command of engaging in acts they described as ‘unjust’ and ‘abuse of power’.

The group alleges that the law enforcement agency is actively shielding criminals and implicating innocent citizens, specifically targeting Master Polo, a respected small-scale miner and philanthropist.

“Mr. Raymond Ali Adofiem has developed his personal interest and working for individuals. A petition recently lodged with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) against Mr. Raymond Wejong Ali Adofiem, the Upper East Regional Police commander by Polo’s lawyer is the reason he (DCOP) Raymond Ali Adofiem) is doing what he is doing” Raymond Puzer Yinzee read the statement.

Mr Raymond Puzer Yinzee reading the statement.

The youth claim the Commander deliberately withheld necessary security and when Polo sought protection from a private security firm, Sherlock Security Company, Adofiem allegedly intervened to send them away, promising his own protection which never materialized.

The accusations escalated dramatically on May 31, 2025, when, Polo’s representatives went to his concession to register workers. The youth group alleges that instead of facilitating the lawful activity, Commander Adofiem dispatched police officers who brutalized and arrested these representatives without cause.

A deeply concerning claim from the group is the suspicion that an AK-47 rifle was “maliciously planted” in Polo’s home to fabricate criminal charges, though he only possessed a legally registered pump-action gun.

The youth warned that this trajectory poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability and they shall issue a protest to register their displeasure in the shortest possible time.

“Plans are far advanced with other youth groups in the region to organize massive protests or demonstrations against actions of the Regional Police Commander DCOP Raymond Ali Adofiem come next week.” The group served notice.

In a passionate appeal, the Concerned Youth is looking up to the IGP to immediately launch a “full and transparent investigation” into the allegations leveled against Commander Adofiem. They are also asking for “adequate security” to operate its concession, Nalamtaaba Enterprise, without interference.

When GBCNews contacted the Regional Police Commander to response to the allegations, he had this to say:

“The court is handling the matter. I don’t want to even think about that at all. So I want to leave it for investigation. I want to focus on the Bawku issue, the Doba issue, the rising issues in Navrongo-Pungu recently that I had to handle and combating the robbery in Gbani area. I keep on telling them, if you are resolving anything, don’t involve the use of violence otherwise once it happens and we arrest you, you face the law. Look, if I am not careful, I’m distracted from building the security resilience that I want to build in this region.” DCOP Adofiem responded.
