Management of Ghana’s premier university, the University of Ghana (UG) has denied collecting about Ghc11 million in graduation fees without providing medallions and scroll holders.

Social media platforms have been flooded with claims that the university administration collected over Ghc11 million in graduation fees without providing medallions and scroll holders. This has prompted the university authorities to release a formal statement refuting the allegations.

A statement released by UG’s Public Affairs Directorate addressed a publication by Joy News and Joy 99.7 FM, labeling the claims as misleading and inaccurate.

According to the university, each of the 15,776 expected graduands paid an amount of GHS500 as graduation fee, totaling GHS7,888,000—not GHS11 million as reported.

The statement explained that the Ghc500 covers essential services, including gown rental, congregation publication, graduation medallion, scroll holder, university souvenir, water, and administrative costs.

UG clarified that while all listed items were provided, procurement delays affected the distribution of medallions and scroll holders.
