Women shouldn’t be punished for pregnancy related issues – Lecturer

A senior lecturer in Labour and Human Resource Studies at the University of Cape Coast, Prof Akua Britwum says it is wrong for any woman to be sacked from her work place because of pregnancy or pregnancy related issues.

She said gender discrimination and exclusion at the workplace are an aberation of the law and must cease forth with.

Prof Britwum was speaking at the opening of a two-day workshop on building gender equality and social inclusion at the University of Ghana, Legon.

It is being organized by the Ghana-Australia Alumini Association.

Prof Britwum said it is about time men also got involved in child care and related matters.

The President of the Ghana – Australia Alumni Association, Ohene Damptey said the Association is collaborating with the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU, of the Police Service in its Child Protection Activities.
