Committee set to oversee re-construction of Appiatse into Modern Green City

A 7-member Committee which is to see to the re-construction of the Appiatse Community which was razed down by explosives has been inaugurated by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor. The Committee is to see to the drawings and the re*construction of the Community to a modern green city.

He said though life is returning to normalcy at Appiatse, finding decent accommodation for the people is now the prime concern of the government. He said all the necessary investigations are ongoing and when the reports are presented the government will implement the recommendations to the latter.

Mr Jinapor said the unfortunate incident at Appiatse is a wake up call for effective implementation of the mining laws.

At a brief ceremony to inaugurate the Committee, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor said the unfortunate incident brought to the fore concerns that need to be addressed soonest.

He disclosed that the government has stepped up to the challenge and he is more than impressed with progress made in restoring some normalcy to the people of Appiatse. The Minister stated that he has received positive reports from the field and is confident that all stakeholders would put their shoulders to the wheel in re-constructing Appiatse.

Mr. Abu Jinapor charged the Committee to draw up a comprehensive plan that will lead to the complete re-construction of the Community.

Chairman of the Committee, Benito Owusu-Bio on behalf of the team, affirmed that they ”fully accept the assignment given them and are committed to delivering on the mandate”.

The Chief of Apiate, Nana Atta Kwadwo Bremebi who is the Divisional Chief of Beppoh expressed gratitude to the Government and the Ministry for their immense support to the Community.

The Committee members include Mr. Sylvanus Adjornu, Director of Housing of the Ministry of Works and Housing, Mr. Kwadwo Yeboah, Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority, Mr. Charles Blankson-Hemans, Ghana Institute of Architects. The rest are Mr. Robert Gyamfi, Resettlement Specialist, Nana Nuamah Kyei-Baffour, Ghana Institute of Surveyors and Nana Atta Kwadwo Bremebi II the Divisional Chief of Beppoh.
