The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has, with immediate effect, banned the use of motorcycles within Asawase in the Asokore Mampong Municipality after 7:00 p.m. until further notice.

Additionally, REGSEC has imposed an outright ban on the use of unlicensed motorcycles in the community.

A statement signed and issued by the Chairman of REGSEC, Dr Frank Amoakohene, who is also the Ashanti Regional Minister, explained that the restrictions form part of emergency measures adopted following the shooting death of Alhaji Abdul Malik Azemgbe, the recognised head of the Kussasi community in the Ashanti Region. He was killed by unidentified assailants.

The statement also directed the immediate suspension of the ongoing inter-tribal football competition within Asawase.

Furthermore, REGSEC has ordered a restriction on entry into the Asawase suburb by motorcyclists wearing smocks, stating that such garments are being used by assailants to conceal weapons.

The Council announced the immediate deployment of additional police and military personnel to enforce the new measures and to protect lives and property in the area.

Residents of Asawase and the Ashanti Region at large are urged to cooperate with the authorities to ensure the effectiveness of these security measures.

REGSEC expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that investigations are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
