Residents at Bohye, a suburb of Asokore in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region have made a passionate appeal to the government to a matter of urgency help reconstruct the Bohye road that has become a death trap for some years now. They complained that whenever it rains, the entire road gets flooded and residents cannot have access to their homes, a situation they noted is very worrisome and needed urgent attention.
The Bohye road is part of the Koforidua town roads earmarked by the government in 2018 to be reconstructed and upgraded. The road, which was initially reconstructed by the past by the John Mahama, led administration in 2016, was graded for rehabilitation by the NPP government last year. As a result, gutters have been constructed and left with the culverts to be fixed however; the project has come to a standstill. The Construction stopped for about a year now, as the Contractor is no more on site.
The road in a deplorable state, which makes plying the road by motorists and pedestrians very difficult and risky, especially when there is a downpour. The edges of both sides of the road where the bridge is located has deteriorated massively due to erosion leaving a big hole, making it very dangerous to ply on especially when it rains and the road is covered with water. The hole created has also narrowed the road making it impossible for two vehicles to ply at a time. Whenever there is a downpour, schoolchildren as well as pedestrians find it difficult to access the road because the entire area gets flooded.
Drivers and pedestrians have to wait for the rainwater to subside before they access the road.
The situation has therefore made life unbearable for residents who live in that locality. Some residents spoke to our reporter when he visited the site about the situation and appealed to the government to come to their aid as early as possible to avert any disaster. Some drivers also expressed their frustration to GBC News and appealed to the government to as early as possible send the contractor back on site to complete the road for easy access.
