The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has appealed to the members Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) to suspend its nationwide strike, which began yesterday Monday, March 9, 2026.

Mr. Abdul-Rashid emphasized the government’s commitment to resolve the union’s concerns through constructive dialogue over the delayed implementation of a revised salary structure and improved conditions of service.

Speaking with ChannelOne News, he stated that CLOGSAG’s demand for a change in their salary structuren is not an unreasonable demand, but remains a very huge demand and that, the government’s agreement to that would imply doing same for all other unions. Mr. Abdul Rashid, however, highlighted that, the government is addressing the demands of CLOGSAG and will not give up addressing the issues behind the strike action.

Mr. Abdul-Rashid emphasized the government’s engagement with the National Labour Commission, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the Ministry of Finance to address the concerns CLOGSAG has raised.

He stressed that, given the channels of communication already in place to address the union’s grievances, industrial action at this stage is not needed, since measures are being put in place to address CLOGSAG’s concerns.

The Minister reaffirmed that, the call for the association to temporarily suspend the strike preserves the cooperative relationship between the government and the public service.

He also urged members to prioritise dialogue over confrontation while the government works towards a swift resolution.
