The Upper East Regional Branch of the National Road Safety Authority, NRSA, has called on the legislature to amend laws to give stiffer punishment to reckless drivers who kill innocent people.

Regional Head of the NRSA, Abdullai Bawa Ghamsah made the call at the launch of the “Stay Alive Campaign” in the Region.

Mr. Ghamsah said, though road accidents are inevitable, some drivers can be blamed for the loss of lives on the roads.

He said what the Authority has recorded so far are not road accidents, but crashes, which are often due to carelessness.

Mr. Ghamsah gave an insight into the “Stay Alive Campaign” and explained measures put in place by the NRSA to curtail road accidents during the yuletide.
