Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta, has approved four million cedis to settle Korle-Bu Renal Unit`s indebtedness to its supplier.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang Manu said government is considering a number of options including placing kidney treatment under the National Health Insurance Scheme and reviewing the fees charged for treatment.
BACKGROUND
The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, is in Parliament to give explanation on the closure of the Renal Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The Health Minister is also expected to explain measures taken by the government to address the challenges that led to the closure and the surge in cases of kidney-related diseases.
The call to summon the Minister was made by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
Mr. Akandoh also urged the Minister to address the issue of the approved GHC 380 fee charge for kidney treatment, which had not been reinstated since the Outpatient Department was closed in May.
The unit was reopened on Monday, November 6, after a directive from the Health Miinister.
