As part of activities to mark its 25th Anniversary, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s Volta Star Radio in the Volta region has taken its microphones to the people of Dzemeni in the South Dayi District of the region via a live outdoor programme. The live outdoor broadcast gave the people a feel of what is mostly done in the confines of the studio and an opportunity to share their views on national issues, especially developmental challenges confronting them.

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s Volta Star Radio at Ho in the Volta region was inaugurated on 16th November 1996 by former Head of State, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings (deceased). The station has the widest broadcast coverage in the Volta Region as a result of its transmitter locations at Ho, Akatsi and the highest human habitation in the country Amedzofe. As a result, the station also reaches parts of Greater Accra, Eastern, Bono, and Northern Regions. Its reception also goes as far as Togo, Benin and the fringes of Nigeria.

Volta Star Radio remains the source of reliable information and entertainment in its catchment areas, more than most radio stations in the region. The outdoor broadcast forms part of activities to mark the stations’ 25th Anniversary. It provided an opportunity for the people at Dzemeni in the South Dayi District of the Volta region to have a feel of what is mostly done in the confines of the studio at Ho, the regional capital. It also provided the public the opportunity to share their opinion on national issues, especially those confronting their locality.

Major issues raised by the people included sanitation, road infrastructure, premix fuel and health.

The theme for the silver jubilee is “25 years of Radio Broadcasting, the socio-cultural effect on listeners”.

Other activities lined up include blood donation, live cultural programmes, football match with sister stations with a climax slated for November 16, 2021.

Management and staff of GBC’s Volta Star Radio intend to use the celebration to inaugurate the Volta Star TV and acquire a transmitter with support from stakeholders of the station.
