The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection and Member of Parliament for Krowor, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has paid the medical bills of newly delivered mothers at the LEKMA Polyclinic in Nungua in an intervention aimed at easing the immediate financial burden facing vulnerable families after childbirth.

At the Nungua LEKMA Polyclinic, two mothers delivered on New Year’s Day, whereas ten New Year babies were received at the LEKMA Hospital.

While the gesture brought visible relief to the beneficiaries, it also drew attention to the economic challenges confronting many women who access healthcare, particularly at the critical point of delivery.

During the Minister’s visit to the polyclinic on New Year’s Day, Dr. Lartey noted that childbirth should not become a financial crisis for families and assured the new mothers of stronger social protection mechanisms to ensure that mothers and newborns receive adequate care regardless of their economic status.

She wished the new mothers well and prayed for the speedy recovery of all patients currently on admission, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving maternal and child health services nationwide.

After settling the hospital bills, the Minister presented assorted detergents and a cash donation to support patients and staff of the LEKMA Polyclinic.

She also encouraged health workers to continue providing quality care despite resource constraints.

The Medical Superintendent of the LEKMA Polyclinic, Dr. William Okyere Frimpong, expressed gratitude to the Minister and MP for the gesture. He, however, lamented the consistent power problems the facility faced in the previous year and called for support to address the challenge.
