A Ghanaian based in Japan, Mr. George Piese Asante Addo, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to leverage the cordial bilateral relations between Ghana and Japan to advance Ghana’s industrial and technological development agenda.
According to him, Japan has much to offer Ghana in terms of technological advancement and industrialisation, and tapping into this potential could significantly fast-track the country’s growth, particularly under the government’s flagship programme, the 24-hour Economy Policy.
Mr. Asante Addo, who has lived in Japan for decades and is highly conversant with the East Asian country, is firmly convinced that Ghana stands to benefit immensely from Japan’s technological prowess.
He previously served as the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Japan Chapter from 2013 to 2018, and as International Relations Officer for the Central Region from 2014 to 2018.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Asante Addo reiterated that the goodwill Ghana enjoys in Japan is strong enough to attract the needed investment and technological expertise to drive the country’s industrialisation efforts.
When asked whether he would accept an appointment from President Mahama to serve in this direction, he responded affirmatively, saying, “I’m ready to serve in any capacity to ensure that the government’s technological and industrialization agenda thrives.”
Mr. Addo currently serves as the Chief of Akyem Osenho and Sanahene of the Akroso Traditional Council. His experience in governance, traditional leadership, and international relations positions him as an ideal figure to help strengthen the bond between Ghana and Japan.
Beyond politics, Mr. Addo is also an accomplished businessman and philanthropist. He is the Founder of GT Africa Company and President of NADECO Company, and has spearheaded numerous community development programmes, vocational training initiatives, and mentorship schemes aimed at empowering Ghanaian youth.
