Ghana joins world to commemorate Day for Persons with Disability

By Rachel Kakraba.

Ghana today joins the rest of the world to commemorate International Day of Persons with Disability. The annual observance on December third was proclaimed in 1992 by the UN General Assembly to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disability in all spheres of society and development.

It also seeks to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disability in every aspect of political, socio-economic and cultural life.

In a statement, UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, urged countries to fully implement the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability, increase accessibility and other barriers to their activities. He said this year’s celebrations are a reminder to build a sustainable, inclusive and just future for everyone.
