The Ghana Navy is set to host the 4th Annual International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (IMDEC 2025), a premier event focused on addressing Africa’s most pressing maritime security concerns. The high-level gathering will take place in Accra and is expected to attract participants from African naval forces, international defence agencies, national security institutions, ministries, and global defence technology providers.

At a pre-conference media briefing, Chief Staff Officer at the Naval Headquarters, Commodore Ben Baba Abdul, highlighted the critical timing of this year’s conference, stating that maritime stability—particularly in regions like the Gulf of Guinea—remains vital to regional peace and economic development.

“IMDEC 2025 is expected to serve as a key platform for dialogue, cooperation, and strategic advancement,” Commodore Abdul said.

The conference will feature a series of high-level discussions, technology exhibitions, and knowledge-sharing sessions aimed at strengthening maritime security frameworks across Africa. Stakeholders will also explore countermeasures to emerging maritime threats and showcase the latest innovations in naval defence technology.

“The conference will not only strengthen partnerships but also empower naval forces across the continent with the tools and knowledge needed to ensure safer waters for all,” he added.

IMDEC 2025 comes at a time when global attention is increasingly turning to the security of Africa’s maritime domain, particularly as piracy, illegal fishing, and trafficking continue to pose serious threats to the region’s blue economy.

The Ghana Navy, through this initiative, reaffirms its commitment to regional cooperation and maritime excellence, as it plays host to what is expected to be one of the most influential defence conferences on the continent this year.
