The Bawku Municipal Security Committee is holding a crunch meeting following the death of two people allegedly shot by the military detachment positioned in the municipality. As a result, there has been shooting throughout the night and this morning.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Bawku, Amadu Hamza told GBC News that the meeting has become necessary in view of the unrest and that the decision to be taken will be made known to the media.

According to reports, the shooting in Bawku began around 9pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Residents cannot tell why this is happening but it is alleged that the military killed two people on Monday for disobeying curfew regulations.

Residents are currently locked up in their rooms and school children cannot go to school.

According to our Upper East Regional correspondent Peter Agengre, there is some uncertainty about the situation, but, the details would be communicated after the Security Council Meeting.
