To improve the management of diabetes in the country especially in underserved communities, five hundred health workers pitched at the various diabetes centres in Accra, Sunyani and Tamale, have been scheduled for training.

This follows a three-year Memorandum of Understanding between French Pharmaceutical Company, Sanofi and the Ministry of Health earlier this year.

General practitioners, nurses, dieticians and educators are expected to benefit from the medical educational programme by the International Diabetes Federation, School of diabetes. The course will also enhance their core competences to advocate for healthy lifestyle and effective self-management of the disease.

For these, the physicians will be made to also follow a three-month medical course related to insulin therapy and a digital solution otherwise known as DISCASE intended to support about five thousand patients.

The Director for Technical Coordination at the Ministry Of Health, Dr. Baffour Awuah advised the participants not to renege in the responsibilities after the training.

In addition to the training, patients can now be able to afford quality insulin products. The Diabetes Endocrine and Metabolic Society of Ghana and the Ghana Medical Association described the support by Sanofi is timely and highly beneficial.
