Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng has been in the defence after his Office came under criticism when Former Minister of Environment Science and Technology, Professor Frimpong Boateng alleged victimization following his invitation for interrogation at the Special Prosecutor’s Office.

In an interview on Joy News File, Mr. Agyebeng explained that his Office has the mandate to investigate all corruption and corruption-related activities which is why ”no one is a saint’,under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Special Prosecutor,OSP.

”I am the conscience of the nation, I am the spirit of the nation, and we look at everyone in the same manner”, Mr. Agyebeng posited.

He said he has a responsibility as Special Prosecutor and even though he is ”the person with the highest risk in the country”, it is important and critical to ”allow the institutions to work”, if Ghana will succeed in the fight against illegal mining- ‘Galamsey’.

The Former Minister of Environment Science and Technology, Professor Frimpong Boateng, was Chairman of the Inter-ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, (IMCIM). The Committee was dissolved following a barrage of corruption allegations against it.

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng was categorical that every member of the IMCIM is being investigated.

He stated that the OSP’s investigations into corruption and corruption-related matters on illegal mining activities began in 2022.
