President John Dramani Mahama has assured the Volta Regional House of Chiefs that the expansion of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) will be brought back on track saying opening additional campuses will help train more qualified health professionals to serve both Ghana and the global market.

‎Addressing the chiefs at the Presidency on Thursday July 31, 2025, President Mahama explained that the revival of the UHAS expansion project is part of his broader vision to build Ghana’s human capital. He stressed that increasing the number of trained doctors, nurses, and health workers will not only improve the country’s healthcare delivery but also boost economic growth by creating job opportunities locally and abroad.

‎He noted that there is growing demand for Ghanaian health professionals in countries such as the Bahamas and Barbados, indicating that government representative is currently in the Caribbean to explore partnerships that will allow Ghana to supply skilled health workers to those countries.

‎President Mahama also mentioned plans to support traditional leaders in community education efforts. This will include tools and training to help them educate people on health, civic responsibilities, and environmental care.

‎He further expressed hope that the ongoing constitutional review process will include input from chiefs to strengthen their role, especially in managing environmental and sanitation issues.
