McDan Group of Companies, a Ghanaian conglomerate with interests in shipping, logistics, aviation, oil and gas, construction, security, and agribusiness, has lost ownership of more than 16 acres of land following a High Court ruling in Accra.

The land, which belongs to the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), became the subject of legal action in February 2025 when GACL filed a writ against two McDan subsidiaries—McDan Shipping Company and Airport Logistics Limited—over breaches of lease agreements and unpaid ground rent.

The parcels in question, measuring approximately 10.63 acres and 5.66 acres, are located near Kotoka International Airport, adjacent to and opposite Action Chapel International.

GACL sought to recover $26,296 in accrued ground rent and a perpetual injunction to prevent the defendants from interfering with the property.

In a ruling delivered on 6 May 2025, the court granted GACL full re-entry and possession of the land, citing the defendants’ failure to present a valid defence. The court awarded all reliefs sought and ordered the companies to pay GH¢50,000 in legal costs.

McDan Aviation, a subsidiary of the group, had its operations at Terminal 1 of Kotoka International Airport suspended in December 2024 due to outstanding debts. While those debts were later settled, the land dispute remained unresolved until this ruling.

GACL has welcomed the judgment as a major victory in its asset recovery efforts, crediting the success to the collaboration between its Legal Department and Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare.
