Media General has condemned the brutal assault on its North East Regional Correspondent, Solomon Kwame Kanaluwe, allegedly by military personnel in Walewale.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the media organisation said it was informed that the incident occurred a day earlier, on 26 January, while the journalist was carrying out his routine activities.

According to the company, Mr Kanaluwe was not covering or recording any military operation at the time of the incident but was engaged in his normal daily duties when he was confronted by soldiers.

Media General described the incident as an abuse of power and a violation of the rights guaranteed under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

The organisation has called on the Military High Command and the Inspector-General of Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that any personnel found responsible are dealt with in accordance with the law.

It has also petitioned the Ministry of Defence to take action over what it described as repeated reports of the use of excessive force against civilians, including media practitioners, during internal security operations.

Media General reiterated its commitment to press freedom and the safety of journalists, saying it would pursue all lawful means to ensure accountability and protect its staff nationwide.

The statement concluded by emphasising that journalists should be able to perform their duties without fear of violence, intimidation or harassment.
