Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, is advocating an increase in road tolls to enable government to embark on its road infrastructure development dubbed the year of roads.
Speaking at an event organised by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs for Civil Society Organisations, on the theme “Economic Revitalisation Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic’’, Mr. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said in other jurisdictions citizens pay more road tolls than what road users pay in Ghana.
He said Ghanaians must be prepared to pay more to realise accelerated development.
Touching on the Fix the Country Campaign, Mr. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said while some people are genuinely pouring their hearts out on challenges confronting the nation others are also capitalising on the campaign for ulterior motives.
A Deputy Minister of Finance nominee, Abena Osei-Asare, said Ghanaians must be prepared to pay more taxes to enable government to rake in more revenue as it embarks on an aggressive domestic revenue mobilisation to mitigate the negative impact of Covid-19 on the economy.
