The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has debunked claims circulating on social media suggesting that Ghanaian passports are being issued to foreigners.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 24, 2025, the Ministry said its attention had been drawn to a viral video alleging that foreign nationals can easily obtain Ghanaian passports. It described the claims as “false and baseless”,  stressing that all passport applications undergo thorough scrutiny to verify the nationality of applicants before any decision is made.

The Ministry emphasized that the submission of required documents does not automatically guarantee approval, as applicants also go through in-person vetting processes to validate the information provided on their forms.

“The Ministry wishes to assure that it will not under any circumstance avail such a security document of the state to non-nationals,” the statement read.

The statement added that the Ministry continues to invest in modern technology and staff training to enhance security measures.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry also warned the public against the use of forged or fake documents when applying for services, stating that such actions are punishable by law under Sections 158, 159, 166, and 169 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
