The Member of Parliament for Central Tongu Alexander Roosevelt Hottordze is alarmed by what he called rampant gruesome murders within the Tongu enclave of the Volta Region.

According to him the unfortunate phenomenon in the area has left the Chiefs and People of the area in perpetual fear and helplessness.

The traumatized looking MP, on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, 1st July, 2021 recounted how an Okada operator from central Tongu was murdered by unknown persons believed to be residents of Adaklu-Waya in the Adaklu constituency as he stressed that “this phenomenon of taking human life has become rampant within the Tongu enclave and the earlier security services gird up their loins and nip these atrocities in the bud the better”.

The MP in a statement said, “the most recent case in point is the gluesome murder of an Okada boy named Abraham Kwabla Tsormana from Mafi Tsakpo who operates Okada Business at Mafi Kumase”.

According to him, the deceased was on Monday 28th June, 2021 at around 7pm, contracted by two Men to send them to Adaklu-Waya. On their way to the said destination, an attempt was made on his life which he fiercely resisted culminating in he being forcefully dragged into the bush and murdered in cold blood, using matches.

He said, it took a passer-by, who saw the motorbike by the roadside at that time of the night, “possibly at the moment that the heinous crime was being committed, went and raised alarm in the nearest community concerning the motorbike on the lonely stretch, taking cognizance of motorbike snatching syndicates and its associated murders, this time, close to crime scene known as Adaklu-Avedzi.

“The Community Members quickly organized themselves and boarded a tricycle toward where the motorbike was sighted only to be swerved by the two persons, heading toward Adaklu-Waya”, he narrated.

Mr. Hottordze said, “Police preliminary investigations have so far revealed that the two men who contracted Master Abraham Kwabla Tsormana are inhabitants from Adaklu-Kpatove, a nearby community to the crime scene”.

They {Suspects} have, however, since been at large when news of Abraham’s death broke out.

The Police have since retrieved their blood-stained dresses purported to have been worn when carrying out this dastardly act.

It has so far been established also that there were blood stains in the bathroom where they had their bath after the murder, the police report suggested.

The MP also revealed some instances in the same Tongu enclave that, about five years ago, an Okada rider who was contracted by some of these unscrupulous persons went and never returned from his trip and all efforts by families and Personnel of the security services to trace his whereabouts proved futile.

Again, a petty trader was pounced on by a Fulani herdsman who slashed her into pieces just last year in a Community called Mafi-Agoe. But for the proactiveness of some Community Members, the Suspect would have absconded.

Worse things are happening in our sister District, South Tongu. Ghanaians can vividly remember that barely a year ago our newsstands were hit with the sad news of the gruesome murder of an Assembly-Member of one of the electoral areas of Sogakope town called the Late Hon. Mawutor Adzahli”.

A Hotel Attendant at Sogakope was also shot in her private part about two years ago but sadly the perpetrators of this heinous crime have still not been apprehended.

An ice-cream seller, who also suffered multiple gunshots in the hands of some unknown persons in the same vicinity is still languishing in pain.

Just about two weeks ago, a 12-year old boy was snatched on his way back from the Mother’s shop but the motorbike the snatchers were using for their operation got involved in an accident and the boy escaped unhurt

The MP used the opportunity to commend the Ghana Police Service in general and in particular the Tongu Police Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent, Denis Fiakpui, for the effective investigations they conducted that led to the apprehension of eight people connected to the crime and currently standing trials.
