NRSA Technical Committee submits report on Toyota Voxy safety risks

A Technical Working Group set up by the National Road Safety Authority,NRSA, to assess the suitability of Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial passenger transport has presented its findings. The Committee was tasked to investigate the causes of the increasing number of accidents involving Toyota Voxy vehicles across the country.

After completing its work, the Group submitted its report to the Authority, highlighting key concerns about the use of the vehicles.

Chairman of the Technical Working Group, Dr. Godwin Ayetor, attributed the situation largely to systemic institutional failures.

Dr. Ayetor further explained that Toyota Voxy vehicles were not originally designed for commercial passenger transport and are being wrongly used for such purposes in Ghana.

Receiving the report, Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority, Abraham Amaliba Esq, expressed appreciation to the committee for its work.

He assured that the Authority will collaborate with the relevant institutions identified in the report to determine the next course of action.

The National Road Safety Authority established a Technical Working Group following growing public safety concerns over the increasing number of crashes involving the vehicle.

Based on the Committee’s findings, the Authority is expected to engage relevant stakeholders in the coming weeks to determine whether the vehicle should be banned for commercial use in Ghana.
