Dean at the School of Graduate Studies, UPSA, Dr. John K. M. Mawutor has asserted that Members of Parliament have gone beyond their boundaries by going into developmental projects.

According to him, the function of the Members of Parliament is to make laws and not become developmental partners.

He however stated that, it is the function of the Municipal Chief Executives (DCE’s) and the District Chief Executives (MCE’s) to administer what the Government has provided for the various localities.

The Dean stated that MCE’s and DCE’s should be given the prominence they need.

“Parliamentarians are to legislate for the country “, he emphasized.

Government Expert and Director General of the Internal Audit Agency, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae on the other hand stated that, Parliamentarians make promises during elections to develop their localities which are not their responsibility.

He added that MP’s should rather lobby and work with the Assembly to develop their localities.

“MP’s are not given funds to develop the country “, he noted.

Education must be intensified on the functions of the MP’s, MCE’s and DCE’s.

“The people think MP’S are responsible for the development of the country “.
