The Central North Regional Police Command’s Special Taskforce, led by DCOP Abraham Acquaye, has arrested 42 suspects in connection with drug peddling and prostitution during an intelligence-led operation in Ayamfuri, Upper Denkyira West District, in the Central Region on April 16, 2025.

At a press briefing, the Regional Commander stated that the operation, which took place between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., targeted high-risk criminal zones within the area.

Among those arrested were 32 female foreign nationals aged between 22 and 32, and 10 Ghanaian males aged between 20 and 31. The arrests were made at two separate brothels and ghettos, where the suspects were allegedly engaged in illicit activities.

Items seized included quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, concoctions believed to be laced with Indian hemp, condoms, and cigarettes.

During initial interrogation, some of the suspects claimed to be victims of human trafficking. They alleged that they had been promised legitimate employment but were coerced into prostitution upon arrival. Others said they were forced to work for years to repay their traffickers, who demanded large sums as ransom before releasing them.

The 32 foreign female suspects are expected to be handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further investigations and necessary action. The 10 Ghanaian male suspects will be screened, and those found culpable will be prosecuted.

DCOP Abraham Acquaye reaffirmed the Police Command’s commitment to combating crime and maintaining public safety across the Central North Region.
