The Ghana Police Service has denied media reports claiming that officers raided the residence of the Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), resulting in the death of an individual.

In a statement, the Police described the reports as false, stating that no raid was conducted on the home of Mr Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the regional chairman.

According to the Police, on Friday, 1 August 2025, at approximately 1:20 a.m., personnel from the Bono East Regional Command responded to a robbery incident based on intelligence. During the operation, officers encountered a group of suspects attempting to flee over a wall.

One of the suspects, later identified as Seidu Bukari, was shot during the encounter. He was transported to a medical facility for treatment but was later confirmed dead.

Investigations revealed that Bukari was a known member of a robbery syndicate involved in the theft and resale of motorbikes, particularly from Techiman to Kumasi. He was also wanted in connection with a previous robbery case.

The gang is believed to have returned to Techiman on the night of the incident to commit another robbery when they were intercepted by the Police. A motorbike and various tools believed to be used for robbery were retrieved at the scene.

It was subsequently discovered that the confrontation took place near the residence of Mr Bukari, the NPP’s Bono East Regional Chairman.

The Inspector-General of Police has deployed a team from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, the Police Professional Standards Bureau, and the Police Intelligence Directorate to investigate the incident thoroughly.

The Police have assured the public of full transparency and urged the public to disregard misinformation circulating in the media.
