The Ashanti Regional Police Command says it is investigating circumstances surrounding the death of the Municipal Chief Executive, MCE, for Krachi East Municipality in the Oti region, Francis Kofi Okesu.
A statement issued by the Regional Police Public Affairs Unit said initial investigations have so far established that Mr. Okesu, accompanied by his driver, checked in at the Harbed House Hotel in Kumasi last Friday, 2nd September, 2022. It noted that the MCE was however not seen on 4th September, 2022 and all efforts made by both his driver and the hotel authorities to reach him on his cellphone proved unsuccessful.
According to the statement, Mr. Okesu’s room door was therefore forced open and he was found lying motionless on his bed.
Police say the MCE was later pronounced dead by a Medical Officer from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased MCE has been deposited at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy while investigation continues.
