Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has entreated the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the Security Services for action. He said ensuring a safe environment is a collective effort of all, stressing that the public needs to collaborate with the security services to enable them to execute their mandate.

Speaking at the graduation Cadet Course Intake 30 of the Prisons Training School, the Vice President said the mantra, See something, Say Something should be the guide to nib criminal activities in the bud. He also lauded the University of Education for extending their courses to the prisons. He charged the Officers to bring their expertise to bear and contribute their quota to national development.

The Officer Cadets Course of the Ghana Prisons Service is run to prepare personnel into senior officers. The Officer Cadets who graduated consist of 203 officers, 157 males and 46 females drawn from various Tertiary institutions with diverse academic and professional backgrounds including Accounting, Health, Medical and Engineering. The officers were taken through a 4-month rigorous training drill and formal courses on Penal Law, Corrections Management and Computation of inmates sentences among others. Vice President Bawumia reiterated the government’s commitment to address challenges in the Prisons Service and also help build their capacity to enable them to execute their mandate in line with international standards. He charged the Prison Officers to uphold the ideals of the service and not focus on meting out punishment to prisoners but help to reform them and build their talents.

Distinguished Officers were recognized for excelling in the course of training and were honoured. The Commandant Award went to Junior Under Officer Kougo Moses Elorm Komla. Junior Under Officer Charles Andoh went home with the Academic Cane Award. The Sword of Honour which is the Overall Best Award to Senior Under Officer Desire Mawutor Klutse.
