Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has defended Sammy Gyamfi following backlash over a video in which he is seen handing her a bundle of US dollars.
Mr Gyamfi, who is the Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board and National Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has come under fire after the video went viral. The Minority in Parliament has since called for his suspension, citing ethical concerns.
In a video posted on Instagram Live, Nana Agradaa, once a well-known fetish priestess who now calls herself a Christian evangelist, insisted that Mr Gyamfi had done nothing wrong by giving her money.
“I swear on my Bible and anointing oil, if Sammy Gyamfi loses his job because of me, I’ll burn down my church,” she said. “The Bible tells us to do good to everyone. If Sammy gave me money, it was out of kindness, and he has every right to do that.”
Mr Gyamfi is said to have met with the Chief of Staff on 12 May after being summoned to the Jubilee House. While the outcome of the meeting has not been made public, it reportedly aimed to address the growing public concern over the video.
