Security agencies have, over the last 48 hours, uncovered and dismantled several suspected cybercrime centres operating within parts of the Greater Accra Region, following intelligence-led operations spearheaded by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA).
The coordinated operations targeted locations in East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija, and Tuba, where intelligence revealed that young men were allegedly being exploited and coerced by cybercrime kingpins to engage in various online fraud activities.
Acting on this intelligence, a joint task force made up of operatives from National Security Operations, the Cyber Security Authority, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, and the National Police SWAT carried out simultaneous raids on 16th and 17th January 2026.
The operations led to the arrest of nine Nigerian nationals identified as suspects, while forty-four other Nigerian nationals believed to be victims of exploitation were rescued. The rescued individuals were found in apartments equipped with laptop computers, allegedly being used for cybercrime-related activities.
Searches conducted at the various locations resulted in the retrieval of fifty-two assorted mobile phones, sixty-two laptop computers, and two pump-action guns.
In all, fifty-three Nigerian nationals were arrested across the five locations. East Legon Hills recorded five arrests, Afienya eleven, Kwabenya ten, Weija ten, and Tuba seventeen.
All arrested persons have since been profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for safekeeping and further investigations. Authorities have also cautioned foreign nationals intending to travel to Ghana to independently verify any claims made by compatriots who may attempt to lure them into the country under false pretences.
Security sources disclosed that individuals apprehended during earlier operations have been profiled by the Ghana Immigration Service in collaboration with INTERPOL and handed over to Nigerian law enforcement authorities at the Seme Border. Others are currently facing prosecution before the courts.
Authorities have reiterated that protecting Ghana’s cyber image and international reputation remains a top priority. Commendation has been extended to the Cyber Security Authority and all partner law enforcement agencies for their professionalism and sustained commitment to combating cybercrime.
