Security in Shukura, and surrounding communities will be enhanced with the establishment of a District Police Headquarters in the area. Solely financed by the Director of Operations at the Presidency, Lord Commey, the edifice will serve other Communities like Mataheko and Laterbiokorshie.

At the official inauguration of the building, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia said the government takes the issue of security seriously as it is committed to maintaining Ghana’s enviable position as the most peaceful country in West Africa. He said the government has over the years given clearance for the recruitment of more personnel, and ”plans are also ongoing to equip the Police Service with more infrastructure”. Dr. Bawumia entreated the Police Service to maintain the facility.

The ultra-modern edifice has a Charge Office, female, male and juvenile cells, Offices for Station Officer, Crime office, a Conference room, Commander’s Office and Orderly room. Vice President Bawumia said the Peace and Security of the nation is paramount to the growth and development of the economy and this cannot be downplayed.

He commended Lord Commey for contributing his widow’s mite to provide for the people of Shukura and environs. He said the government is equipping the Police Service with the needed infrastructure to enhance their work. Also, the 320 Security Housing Unit at the Tesano Training School is in the offing. He charged the Police Service to maintain and put the facility to good use and properly maintain the building.

Interior Minister Ambrose Dery said the government’s transformational agenda for the Police Service has been evident in the provision of the needed infrastructure to enhance their work.

Inspector-General of Police, George Akufo Dampare in a remark said the facility will not only complement the efforts of the Police Service but help improve policing in the community and the nation as a whole. He assured of increased police visibility across the country to keep the country safe from miscreants.

Chief of Shurkura, Alhaji Hamidu Ibrahim Dantani, Same-pay Mantse and Acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Adotey Otintor graced the occasion.
